Building the Foundation of Hypr Network

This article shows a simple blueprint for how hypr network plans to grow.

Whenever people think of “growth”, most use that word generically as if things just grow. But the fact is that most things grow from something and into something.

So what is Hypr growing from and into?

What is Hypr Growing From

We are grateful to have Ethereum as our foundational layer, benefiting from its security, scale, and also its very large ecosystem. Vitalik and team truly have built something quite special and we are privileged to be part of the Ethereum family.

In support of the scaling vision of Ethereum, as a highly specialized Layer 2 focused on gaming, GambleFi, and other gaming-like applications, we want to be a chain that meets the highly unique needs of game developers. That means that Hypr needs to have some key primitives that most other chains won’t necessarily need.

What is Hypr Growing Into

We want to present this chart to give the community a sense of what we are building. This chart shows various layers and categories that are key for Hypr to succeed. Think of this chart a v1 blueprint for the technical foundations we are building.

Note: this chart only shows the technical aspects we need to become an attractive chain for our target developer. What we are not showing are the qualitative, intangible aspects such as a player community or guild, which is very important. After all, every game and dapp needs players and users and Hypr wants to help every developer succeed by having a player community ready to be the first set of users for Dapps that deploy on Hypr.

Over time, each category block will be replaced by a named partner. For example, for Data Availability, we have already integrated with Celestia. But for the purposes of this paper, I want to keep this blueprint generic, focused on categories.

For those reading between the lines, this chart represents, in part, our business development blueprint.

Let us explain:

  • Layer 1: This of course is Ethereum.
  • Layer 2: This is Hypr, with all the right hooks and connections into Ethereum.
  • Primitives and Foundations: We have highlighted three major categories, each containing key functions needed by Dapps that build on Hypr.
  • Dapps and Games: In this layer, we envision games of all types, GambleFi - both games of skill and chance and, more generally, Dapps in general that don’t fit in either games or gambling. Each of these Dapps in this layer will take advantage of all the services already available on the protocol beneath it.

Let's unpack an example: The Liquidity Layer under Primitives and Foundation.

Every Dapp, whether it's a game or not, will need liquidity on Hypr. That liquidity will come in form of:

  • Canonical Bridged Liquidity: these are the assets on native Ethereum bridged to Hypr Mainnet.
  • Externally Bridged Liquidity: these are the assets bridged to Hypr Mainnet from other chains.
  • Native Liquidity: these are the assets that are minted on Hypr Mainnet natively, such as Hypr and other tokens from Dapps on Hypr.

Hypr plans on building out the liquidity layer via campaigns to incentivize bridging assets from Ethereum, other chains, and Hypr will support the minting of native assets on Hypr from native projects on Hypr Mainnet.

In preparation for this, we've started the process with L2Beats.

Don’t think of this foundation chart as final - we are still learning as we are actively developing. At some point, we might discover a category that is needed by a game or a Dapp that isn’t available; at that point, we will expand our list of services through either partnership or we build it ourselves. Also, keep in mind that many Dapps don’t need what I’m calling Primitives and Foundation - they work directly with the Hypr Network layer.

We are builders. We think long-term. In this first phase of Hypr, we are building the foundation for a very rich, thriving ecosystem. And we are excited to have you along for the ride with us.
